Privacy Logic builds SPEYEGUARD® peephole covers.

A family company in Grand Rapids, Michigan, building the door viewer covers that hotels, property managers, and travelers trust.

Our story

In 2009, Gary Van Solkema watched a national news story about a woman who had been secretly filmed through the peephole of her hotel room door. His daughter was away at college. He had seen the peephole on her door. The story ran for several nights, and by the end of it he had an idea. He took it to his wife, Debra.

They formed Privacy Logic, LLC in October 2009 and developed SPEYEGUARD® Portable and Fixed Peephole Covers.

In 2016, they drove to Nashville, TN and sat through the full civil trial that followed that news story, start to finish. They wanted to understand the risk from the inside, both to guests and to the properties responsible for them. The jury verdict put nearly half the responsibility on the hotel parties. That number is why hotel operators call us.
